MTCB continually strives to provide social and recreational opportunities for its membership. Programs at present include a low-cost weekly bowling outing, a Supper Club that visits different restaurants, and an annual Summer picnic. We also financially supplement members attendance at TPAC live narration programs and movies at Regal Theatres where audio description is available. Also, we were instrumental in the implementation of an audio tour with tactile maps for the blind to use at Centennial Park.
Supper Club
Since it's beginning in 1998, Supper Club has become the longest running and most popular outside activity of MTCB. At the business meetings we vote to choose a restaurant to visit on the first Saturday of each month. We try for a variety both in location and type of food. It serves as a great opportunity for members and prospective members to congregate and have a good time.
Bowling Program
Ten-pin bowling is one of the most popular recreational activities in the United States among both sighted and visually impaired athletes as it provides people of all ages the opportunity to compete in both recreational and elite settings at all ages. For the blind bowler, this is also an appealing sport because the only physical modification needed for the lanes is a portable guide rail, depending on the vision of the competitor. Our weekly bowling is at Tusculum Strike and Spare in Nashville on Thursdays. 5315 Nolensville Pk, Nashville TN 37211.
TPAC Broadway Plays
MTCB helps offset the cost of attending select Broadway musicals and theatrical performances at TPAC that offer Audio Description services. When there is enough interest, MTCP may also request additional audio-described performances for members and guests.
Please visit our Event Calendar for current show information and dates.
Accessibility Equipment Program
Once each year, MTCB provides a subsidy for members in good standing to purchase low-tech and high-tech accessibility items through an approved online vendor. This program is designed to help members access tools and technology that support greater independence, accessibility, and everyday living.
Regal Movies
Twice each year, MTCB provides complimentary movie passes for members in good standing to attend films at Regal Cinemas that offer Audio Description services.
Summer Picnic in the Park
MTCB holds an annual picnic in a local city park where members, families, and friends come together to celebrate community, service, and advocacy. The picnic provides an opportunity to relax, socialize, and enjoy time together outside of regular meetings and events.
Please visit our Event Calendar for current Picnic details.
